Making a splash with the Mayor of London
Mayor Makes a Splash at our school!
During May Half term the school welcomed the Mayor of London Boris Johnson, Team GB sychronised swimmer Katie Dawkins, and Jazmine Stansbury, Team GB and 2012 Britain's Got Talent finalist and special guests to see our Make a Splash programme in action!
The Mayor of London's Olympic Legacy Programme, Make a Splash is designed to ensure a lasting legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. A temporary swimming pool and changing rooms were built during the Easter Holidays in our playground at Gower Street and will be available for use between until Thursday 11th July 2013.
Speaking poolside, the London mayor emphasised the importance of Make a Splash, pointing out that currently around half of 11-year-olds in London were unable to swim.
He said: “We want kids in London to be able to swim. It’s something that is going to be with you for the rest of your life, it’s an absolutely glorious thing to do and it also keeps you fit.
The pool measuring 12 metre x 6 metre and 1 metre deep provides opportunities for entire communities to access swimming. On weekdays the pool delivers school swimming lessons to both our students and those from neighbouring primary schools, with a timetable of sessions for the community running on weekday evenings and Saturday’s.
