WHAT THIS COURSE OFFERS YOU

  • Mathematics is one of the best subjects to develop your analytical, research

    and problem-solving skills.

  • Not only will studying Mathematics help give you the knowledge to tackle scientific,

    mechanical, coding and abstract problems, it will also help you develop logic to tackle

    everyday issues like planning projects, managing budgets and even debating

    effectively.

  • You get to meet the tools that are used in real-world applications along with some of

    those applications. It will enable you to understand the statistics used in the news,

    and it will allow you to make sense of the economy, medicine and even law.

  • This course will allow you to develop an understanding of Mathematics and

    mathematical processes, develop the ability to reason logically and construct

    mathematical proofs: understand the coherence and progression in Mathematics;

    and learn how different areas of Mathematics can be utilised.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • 5 GCSE passes at G4 or higher.
  • G7 or above in GCSE Maths

 

ASSESSMENT / CORE MODULES

  • Paper 1 – Pure Mathematics 1 – 2 hour paper – 33%

  • Paper 2 – Pure Mathematics 2 – 2 hour paper – 33%

  • Paper 3 – Statistics and Mechanics – 2 hour paper – 33%

  • This Mathematics course is a 2-year linear course.

 

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

  •  Teacher-led lessons, to provide essential knowledge and to develop the

    Mathematical skills needed.

  • Problem-solving lessons, where a variety of different problems are tackled.

  • Using past exam questions to provide essential practice and to develop exam

    technique.

  • There is a strong emphasis on independent learning: at least 7.5 hours is per week.

 

FUTURE PATHWAYS

  • Mathematics is an essential discipline for many subjects at University level and many careers. If you intend to read Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Computer Science, Medicine, Economics or Finance, it is essential that you do A-level Mathematics.
