WHAT THIS COURSE OFFERS YOU

  • You should study Geography at A-level if you have an interest in the world you live in.  At this level it is based on understanding the physical and human environments found on Earth and exploring the way in which people have an impact on, and are affected by, processes operating on our planet.
  • This specification covers a range of topics from tectonic processes and hazards to governance and sovereignty.
  • You will be able to discuss and come to conclusions about various questions such as:
    • Are we living in a more hazardous world?
    • Why are some locations more at risk than others?
    • Why are coastal landscapes different and how does this impact people?
    • What is globalisation and why is it accelerating?
    • Hw do individuals and governments respond to the challenges of development?
    • Why are theres many variations of development in the UK?

 

  • You’ll enjoy this course if….
    • you are interested in the Earth’s physical processes   
    • you want to understand why there are differences and there is inequality across the world

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • G5 or above in GCSE Geography.
  • 5 GCSE passes at G4 or higher.
  • G5 or above in GCSE English and Maths, as there is a high level of literacy and numeracy on the course.

 

ASSESSMENT / CORE MODULES

  • Paper 1 & 2 – each 1 hour and 15 minutes - each 30% of the qualification.
  • Paper 3 – 2 hours 15minutes- 20% of the qualification.
  • Paper 4 – Independent Investigation- 20% of the qualification.
  • Internally assessed report (coursework).

 

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

  • You will be taught through a combination of teacher-led lessons and independent study.
  • There are opportunities for you to develop your report writing, decision making/problem solving and presentation skills.

 

FUTURE PATHWAYS

  • Geography is useful in many careers such as working with development or aid agencies, environmental work, using Geographical Information Systems, tourism, surveying and town planning. 
  • Geographers are considered by employers to be the most employable of graduates.
