The Year 10 project is ongoing and can be seen on the hoardings of Phoenix Court and Phoenix Road.

The school is working with the Tim Parry and Johnathan Ball Peace Foundation on their leadership development programme to help students develop the skills needed to support other young people.

The students will explore issues, such as identity & belonging, prejudice and discrimination, conflict resolution and social action.  They will get to experience situations in which their assumptions are exposed and constructively challenged.

The Foundation was set up by the parents of Tim Parry who was 12 years old when he was killed by an IRA bomb that exploded in Warrington in 1993.  Johnathan Ball was also killed; he was 3.  Amongst other things, the Foundation provides education and trailing for young people to promote peace in their communities.

He has been UK Director for the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the premier and largest industry body in India. He is also the co-founder of a tech start-up in the CSR space. Previously he worked in Economic Consulting at FTI Consulting and Deloitte in London and Abu Dhabi, with a focus on public policy and international arbitration. 

He gave students and insight into his interesting history and wealth of business experience, and answered many questions form students about the world of business and gave tips about what they should do if they want to work successful for themselves.

Students worked with three ‘School of Coding’ trainers, impressing them with their team work, problem solving and creative thinking skills.  They were commended for  their dedication and creativity and one of the trainers said that our students ‘out smarted the trainer’!  

Toyota Connected Europe were so impressed with Maria Fidelis students' passion, commitment and excellent conduct, they have offered to design another event just for us with a focus on ‘design, problem solving and organisational thinking’. The Computer Science department is very excited about this developing partnership and we aim to follow up the invitation in the summer term. 

The religious sisters spent some time sharing their vocation stories with our pupils. The FCJ values were revisited; the global work of the FCJ communities were highlighted; and links were made between our school values and their work for the care of our common home. The sisters explained why their presence at COP 26 was important: as people of faith, we should strive to do good work to care for the environment.

Companionship is central to all the work that FCJ communities do. As companions, both children and staff were encouraged to walk alongside our neighbour, to accompany and be present with and for them as we build a sustainable world.

Students have dedicated time after school to place items in bags and organise them and then deliver them to the families living around our school. A lot of these families recently arrived from Afghanistan with nothing, so the items delivered have been happily received. Items such as coats, shoes, warm jumpers are so important in these cold winter months. 

We are very proud of our school community and the wonderful generosity they have shown. This has always been a strength of Maria Fidelis students and families. The difference they have made to these families is huge and profound.

Illias said, "I love wheelchair racing because of the thrill and I love going at high speeds.  I am inspired by David Weir and train at his club."

The Camden team won a bronze medal in the overall medal table.  Illias still has the Silverstone 5km race and the London mini marathon coming up.

The students worked in teams and had to compete against each other to see of they could uncover the truth about the crime.  The day was a great success and would not have been possible without the co-operation of PC Luty, who advised on points of law and police technique, the three suspects - Miss Masud, Miss Everson and Mr Maynard, and the key eye-witness, My Harding.

We celebrated Laudato Si' week from the 16th-24th May.   Pope Francis’ encyclical 'The Way we Care for our Common Home' was being promoted and celebrated around the world.

Safer Internet Day 2021 is celebrated globally on Tuesday 9th February 2021 with the slogan “Creating an internet we trust”, the day provides a fantastic opportunity for parents and carers to engage with their children about their digital lives. 

To help you talk to your children about having a positive and safe time online, the UK Safer Internet Centre has created a pack for parents and carers, which you can access here.

Here are some key resources that both children and parents can access if they are struggling and need some support:

• Every Mind Matters: There is advice and signposting on this page to help parents to support their own mental health and wellbeing. There are also resources on this page for parents to help them to provide support to their children and young people in their life.

• Good Thinking: online support for parents can be found here. There is advice and signposting (lots of free resources) for anxiety, low mood, stress, problems with sleeping etc.

• Specific support for BAME children and parents: Barnardo’s has a helpline which is for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic young people and families. You can find more information on this here.
